Color Specialist Mary Hoffman of Benjamin Moore Says “Embrace Neutral with Pops of Color”

Written by faith | 0

Mary Hoffman knows color ~”As a third generation employee with Benjamin Moore & Co, Mary Hoffman has experienced paint from a diverse perspective.” from Sunset Magazine. So when Mary says, “embrace color’ she means it.

As a Seattle interior designer, I soaked in her message at a presentation at the Kravet showroom. We’re all still mostly neutral but we want some pops of color to punch up our furnishings and walls to set our room and home designs apart.

Enter purple with grays, beiges and a touch of yellow.  One stellar fabric on a pillow, headboard, small chair or ottoman adds the punch that sets an otherwise dull setting apart, thanks to Pollack Fabrics.

Mary Hoffman noted that current fashion = current design and the Fall runway made shades of purple important this season.  Purple is the color for royalties. It stands for luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It is also the color of passion, romance and sensitivity.

Holiday Decorations with Toddlers ~ What About the Christmas Tree? Can You Have a Beautiful Room Too?

Written by faith | 0

Over the T-Day holiday, I spent time with my California family and I assisted sorting the holiday decorations and considered interior design ideas. My daughter and I  plotted the “where they could go” and where to place the Christmas tree.  The goal for us ~  be out of the reach of my 18 month old grandson and remain a beautiful room design. This definitely got my memory going for friends, family and clients in a similar predicament.

So like many other families, the day after T-Day involved a trip to the local site for  Christmas trees. The location to place the tree  was already determined which means out of the reach of ‘the destroyer’ (as he is affectionately called). We placed it on the Hickory Chair chest and added lights, a tree topper and sentimental keepsakes (many made by my daughter as a child) to complete the theme.

This Hickory Chair chest is a perfect placement for the tree ~ just the right height for this years tree.

Can Outdoor Furniture Move Indoors? See How Families Use Outdoor Furniture Inside

Written by faith | 0

Dramatic advancements in outdoor furniture offer comfortable, stylish furnishings with extra benefits for busy families says this Seattle interior designer. The quality design and practical fabrics from outdoor furniture manufacturers create the opportunity to move outdoor furniture into home designs. Consumers love the practical benefits that accompany outdoor fabrics.  In the picture below (Brian Harken, photographer) from an article in the WSJ, the active toddler epitomizes the attraction and reason for the popularity for active families who desire beautiful interiors.

Vintage Decorating Flourishes in the Georgetown Seattle Design District

Written by faith | 0

Vintage decorating is alive and well from the vantage of Seattle interior designer Faith Sheridan. And the action and interior design ideas are abundant in the Georgetown, Airport Way neighborhood of the Seattle Design District. Walking the shops and seeing the well priced, authentic accessories countered the headline story from the NY Times this week, “All That Authenticity My Be Getting Old“.

With a group of friends this past Saturday, we thoroughly investigated a few stellar locations beginning with Kirk Albert and Susan Wheeler Home.

Someone in our group made a new home for this owl.

Not to confuse any tourists since there is only one  Seattle Space Needle, a remnant from  Seattle’s World Fair 1962 would have you believe otherwise.

Tourist confusion opportunity

Are there two Space Needles in Seattle?

As Stephen Drucker, former editor of House Beautiful, aptly stated in the NY Times article, “A 1930s pickling jar from Hungary, or anything Etsy,” he continued, “serves the same purpose as a 20-pound Swedish crystal ashtray did for my parents: It says, ‘We’re different, we’re daring, we’re not boring.’ ”

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, our home designs sparkle with finishing touch accessories. We know that Small gestures make a big impact - an exquisite tray, a family heirloom, a painting, vase or jewel box form a beautiful composition and add the personal touch that makes your home complete.

Add Glamor + Style in Any Room with a Mirror

Written by faith | 0

Oh such gorgeous mirrors this Seattle interior designer (Faith Sheridan) found at a ‘must-see’ boutique, Susan Wheeler Home. Always an advocate of using mirrors for glamor and style, I know an even more glamorous option is a mirror with age and patina. Beautiful interiors come alive with mirrors.

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, “It’s all about the client and understanding. I look around their home and see how I can express who they are in my designs. I take it beyond what they would expect it would be,” says Faith.  “I don’t work within a fixed style. I watch, listen and observe. It becomes a Gestalt. It is more than they imagined it would be.”
