How Wallpaper + Fixtures Transform a Powder Room

Written by faith | View Comments

As I begin to design a powder room remodel, this interior designer in Seattle wants to explore what’s new, fresh and adventurous in todays powder room designs. The project involves much more than the powder room but I think powder rooms are such an opportunity to create a WOW impression.

I started my exploration with a video I found with lots of ideas to get my brain percolating.YouTube Preview Image

Titled Powder Room Talk-HGTV, the video updates surfaces but not wallpaper. But finding the perfect one for a 1970′s home on the water in Seattle will offer a chance to look at new looks and companies.  I began my search at Hermitage is a Home with Jennifer June. This is a fantastic site for wallpapers from smaller companies.

Description: Hand printed in a small East London studio, this collection is retro in style with a modern use of color.  With bright and cheery designs these prints create a most inviting environment.

Since this project is on the water and birds abound, I like the idea of this paper. “Hand printed in sunny California, Madison & Grow embraces a green approach to the production of their line.”

Beauty With Benefits-Garden Tour to Benefit Hopelink

Written by faith | View Comments

Over the course of a few years, this interior designer in Seattle meets many other design professionals who practice in the area of garden and landscape. And in the past 12 months, Tina Dixon and I worked closely on two projects. Not only is Tina an award winning landscape and garden designer, she is also an advocate for community causes such as Hopelink. Hopelink offers an integrated array of programs that enable families in crisis to make progress toward and achieve self-sufficiency. We all know that right now is a particularly rough time for those of our neighbors who have no safety net for their families.

Hopelink Benefit Garden Tour

Tina and her husband, Paul Stredwick, are hosting a garden tour and party at their home in Bothell on Sunday, August 15th. Take advantage of this opportunity to see a nationally awarded garden and donate to a worthy cause too.

Sunday, August 15, 2010 from

More about Tina’s garden – in addition to winning the sought after Golden Trowel from Garden Design Magazine, her garden has been featured in Seattle Homes and Lifestyles and Seattle Times’ Pacific Northwest Magazine and pictured in Sunset Magazine.  Her garden, rarely open to the public, features bold color and plant combinations, art created by local artisans and more than 20 creative, imaginative container gardens.

My Summer is Under Construction

Written by faith | View Comments

For my interior design firm in Seattle this summer, it’s all about construction.  Condo roof decks,  custom hobby rooms, large additions such as the covered outdoor patio/kitchen I share today. And there are more in the queue.

Surely, one of the best parts of my job is to see a project evolve.  But my clients have made that a virtual experience by capturing the construction using a web-cam.  Week after week, they share the view from the camera making me excited for the next week . I am able to see the shape and form of the addition unfold.

This video displays Week 8.  Included in the addition is a sitting room for the master bedroom.  One of my favorite aspects is the inglenook at the end of the covered patio.  I am pleased to work with the respected architecture firm, Gelotte Hommas, on the project. Scott Hommas sensitively and artistically interpreted the features my clients desired.  More to come.

Awed by the Chihuly Boathouse

Written by faith | View Comments

On Tuesday evening I attended an event at the Dale Chihuly Boathouse supporting the local ALZ chapter. (more on that later) As an interior designer in Seattle, my creative juices anticipated a jolt, I just didn’t realize just how awed I would be.  Living in Seattle and part of the design community, I am familiar with Dale Chihuly and his history. Needless to say, he is a Seattle icon.  I used my capable IPhone and created a quick video to share. YouTube Preview Image

In the photos you can also see his collections and  I especially enjoyed the Pendleton blankets.  I learned this is a small number of them.  He also collects baskets and in general is a ‘collector’.

About the ALZ event- I listened to Barry Petersen, Emmy Award winning CBS News Correspondent and Author.  He authored the book, Jan’s Story: Love Lost to the Long Goodbye of Alzheimer.

I encourage you to see the video of his interview and to purchase his book as he donates 10% to the cause of ALZ.
