Dreaming of Color and Updates on my Patio

Written by faith | 1

Yes, Seattle is gray and wet but this March is cold with gray and wet. I’m so tired of it (believe me, I have lots of company). So this Seattle interior designer sees daffodils, pink buds and dreams of color on my patio this summer.  My teak furniture is now grayed.. and I love it that way.  Two persimmon-colored fiberglass plant containers mark the boundaries of my unit.  I created an Olioboard to get started on my updates… and the BIG update is a rug to start.

The rug anchors my patio space

My dreamy additions:

Outdoor fabric from Schumacher

Love this persimmon print for my chaise cushion

Perfect size side table from West Elm

Love this for my patio

Coastal Stripe from Liora Mann

This anchors the furniture setting with color

Yet to come are the table accessories.. and my plants and flowers…come on sun!  Of course, there’s basil, rosemary and thyme…

Flavors for salads and bbq's

My favorite herbs

I’m wondering about a new umbrella cover too.

Daffodil?

Time to get serious.  Are you ready to plan your outdoor NOW? Imagine the good times you will enjoy and share this summer. Call us and you’ll be ready when summer arrives. 206.973.3743

Musings About Leprechauns, Green and St.Pat’s Day

Written by faith | 0

Growing up in a family that loves ALL things Irish, my memories abound around St. Paddy’s Day. On that day I donned something green, an Irish button, ate corned beef and sent celebratory cards. especially enjoy the legend of the Leprechaun. The ‘wee folk’ make mischief so if you capture one, be very careful. You will have 3 wishes. As an interior designer in Seattle, I still LOVE green…and have some wishes.

My 3 wishes are GREEN for sure but interpreted differently!

Three or more of these will be JUST fine with me.

These days I’m loving Converse, Trina Turk for Schumacher and Anthropologie to name a few.

Next, I’m focused on Benjamin Moore greens.. an abundant offering of them is available.

Benjamin Moore Greens for March

Add some green to your home with Benjamin Moore

From left to right the color names are:  Stem Green, Lewiville Green, Fresh Cut Grass, Cedar Green, Mesquite.  I like the vibrant Stem Green for a laundry room, a kitchen with white cabinets, an accent wall.  Where would you use it?
Reuse, Reinvent, Recycle
The go-to message: Reclaim furniture from your family that lingers in attics or basements. Check out an estate sale auction. My clients did this with an early 20th century settee family heirloom. It was in pieces, horsehair filling smelled awful but now it’s a useful family treasure.  I used Cowtan and Tout Baudelaire Stripe.

How to Calm Condo Clutter? Go Vertical with California Closets

Written by faith | 4

For this Seattle interior designer, city living equals a condominium. Call it downsizing or urban living, it equates to less space. In a recent project the solution to condo clutter came with vertical solutions from California Closets. In this 1000 sf downtown Seattle view condo, the guest bedroom was also the office, a common situation. How to store files and still offer guests a place to land for a visit? What? no linen closet for extra towels, comforter, blankets?

For this project, the solution arrived in the form of maximizing vertical wall space within the condo. Let’s start with the guest/home office closet. First the client sorted out essential office requirements for space and files and then guest needs like bed size, a table and lamp and closet.

The closet now provides hanging space for a short term guest as well as office file storage for the home.

Next, the non existent linen closet. In the entry we swapped the existing entry closet for a 7 foot niche directly opposite. The wall displayed art and books which moved to another location. With a larger entry closet, essential linen storage has a place of its own plus the coats, boots, shoes, hats and entry clutter is hidden away too.

Probably the fastest and most efficient organization comes from a well organized closet. With an inventory in hand courtesy of California Closets, clothes, shoes, belts, purses and all are placed within easy view for my client.

A place for everything and everything in its place!

While you may not need a closet the size of Gayle King’s, we all benefit from a clutter cleanse and the sense of relief when we can find our clothes easily.
