Vintage Decorating Flourishes in the Georgetown Seattle Design District

Written by faith | 0

Vintage decorating is alive and well from the vantage of Seattle interior designer Faith Sheridan. And the action and interior design ideas are abundant in the Georgetown, Airport Way neighborhood of the Seattle Design District. Walking the shops and seeing the well priced, authentic accessories countered the headline story from the NY Times this week, “All That Authenticity My Be Getting Old“.

With a group of friends this past Saturday, we thoroughly investigated a few stellar locations beginning with Kirk Albert and Susan Wheeler Home.

Someone in our group made a new home for this owl.

Not to confuse any tourists since there is only one  Seattle Space Needle, a remnant from  Seattle’s World Fair 1962 would have you believe otherwise.

Tourist confusion opportunity

Are there two Space Needles in Seattle?

As Stephen Drucker, former editor of House Beautiful, aptly stated in the NY Times article, “A 1930s pickling jar from Hungary, or anything Etsy,” he continued, “serves the same purpose as a 20-pound Swedish crystal ashtray did for my parents: It says, ‘We’re different, we’re daring, we’re not boring.’ ”

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, our home designs sparkle with finishing touch accessories. We know that Small gestures make a big impact - an exquisite tray, a family heirloom, a painting, vase or jewel box form a beautiful composition and add the personal touch that makes your home complete.

Get Cozy, Beautiful Interiors with Accessories

Written by faith | 0

In Seattle, interior designer Faith Sheridan feels a crispness in the air. What accessories make your home cozy and a beautiful interior too? What about colors to add warmth, comfort and pizazz? Some favorites and go-to resources in this post.

  1. Snuggle comfortably with a vibrant throw. And my absolute first choice are the ones from Williams Sonoma Home~ talk about cutting edge colors + cashmere for that luxurious touch.

    2.  Target now partners with Missoni and this flame-stitch or zig-zag throw offers maximum punch and warmth to a room design.

    3.  Colorful pillows complete the cozy and beautiful design.  I like the covers from West Elm since you can select the insert you like: down for soft or poly for firm.

Adding Accessories with Color to your Outdoor Space

Written by faith | 0

Why be generic? Why be generic when you can choose a unique colorful trellis instead? For my outdoor spaces in Seattle, whether on a condo patio or large backyard space, I encourage accessories with color for a uniquely designed concept.

Enter TerraTrellis, a California based company. “TerraTrellises are re-imagined, modern versions of classic garden structures. They are designed not only to support a plant but to integrate with it. This union ultimately forms a work of self- standing, living art in the landscape.”  Colorful, contemporary steel garden trellises, tuteurs and arbors.

Unique colors for outdoor spaces

The seven color selections allow you to be your own artist and select favorite plants to combine with a color. Have fun by combining an architectural element with color and plants like clematis, roses or tomatoes.

If you don’t live in the Los Angeles area, you can order from the company online and your trellis will be shipped to you (some assembly may be required).

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, we help you achieve your personal style. Relax and let us guide you through the process of design. How can we help you?

Space Savers for Urban Outdoor Spaces

Written by faith | 0

For my Seattle outdoor space I selected space saving furniture.  Since I live in a downtown condo, I know about small patios and decks and the challenges. Just like those with homes in the suburbs, urban livers desire a ‘backyard oasis’. So enter specialty casual furniture companies Blue Star Group and Zuo Modern.

Make the most of small space

The umbrella solution to a narrow condo patio is this option from Blue Star Group. This convenient product opens the outdoor living experience to enjoy from any view. And when not in use all the items can be folded out of the way to conserve space.

Another company, Zuo Modern, aims to serve urban dwellers as its core market. Cutting edge designs attract young, modern families. One set, Cabo, is both high tech while comfortable and sized with an urban patio in mind.

Pillow Power on Your Sofa

Written by faith | 0

True confession, this Seattle interior designer is a textile junkie. Textiles infuse a room with patterns, textures and color… and create an emotional response. As a great example, House Beautiful featured 1 Sofa, 6 Designers, 31 Pillows. You can see the article in the February, 2011 issue.

House Beautiful - collected pillow arrangement Ellen Hamilton

The 6 examples offer a lesson in applying design elements strategically on one major furniture item in your home, the sofa. In the article and discussion you see everything from whimsy with dog photos to white on white, color emphasis, pairs and the collected composition. For myself I love the sophistication of the ‘collected’ example which is described as ‘well-traveled with happy colors’.

The finishing touch of accessories like pillows make a big impact.  At Faith Sheridan Design Group, we love to add that ‘small gesture with big impact’ to your home.  Call us to schedule a consultation.
