Day 10 of Design Inspirations – Black and White Photography

Written by faith | 0

Early in my design career, when I practiced in Omaha, NE, I participated in a Symphony/ASID Designer Showhouse. The room was round making art placement challenging so I used an easel.  This expert Seattle interior designer was fortunate to have Larry Ferguson add his art with a portrait of my daughter and me in vintage clothing.  That’s when I became inspired with black and white photography.  In the photo below, you can see the black and white portrait on an antique easel. Note how the wallpaper I selected emphasizes the round room.  The desk finish is trompe l’oeil. This project was a very creative exercise.

Landscapes and portraits are design friendly additions to an interior design.  They are a reminder of events and times in our lives.

All of the images in this post are from Larry Ferguson Studios.

Day 9 of Design Inspirations – Monograms

Written by faith | 0

Perhaps it is the letter itself that attracts me.  Not certain, but this expert Seattle interior designer, loves to leave a monogram somewhere in my interior designs. Fortunately my favorite manufacturer, Hickory Chair, makes this very easy.  So I like to place them on the inside or outside of chair backs for starters, then there are pillows.  Lots of choices and design opportunities.

Here are some examples to get you thinking – and inspired.  All images courtesy of Hickory Chair.

Day 8 of Design Inspirations – Ikats

Written by faith | 0

Since the beginning of my design career, this Seattle interior designer, sought Ikat patterns in my interior design. What is an ikat? Ikats have been woven in cultures all over the world. In Central andSouth America, Ikat is still common in ArgentinaBoliviaEcuadorGuatemala and Mexico. Ikat, or Ikkat, is a style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. A Double Ikat is when both the warp and the weft are tie-dyed before weaving.

Here are some favorites… still classics all these years.

Written by faith | 0

Yes, this Seattle interior designer joins the city to celebrate El Nino.. and the warmest February ever. I love the blooming flowers, magnolia trees near flowering and the smiles on everyone’s faces.

Tomorrow will be the final perfect day. The last April day in February.  It’s time to explore floral fabrics and bring the flowers to interior design.
