What Do Women Really Want?

Written by faith | 2

Women know this and I know this as a Seattle interior designer. Women are the primary decision-makers in most home decisions. And when it comes to the layout and emphasis of the home’s features, four areas emerge… Where are you in this mix? Or do multiple features attract you?

Entertaining

Homes with options for entertaining around food are important

Kitchens are the main attraction

Adaptable Living Spaces

Blurring the division between rooms in your home is a leading trend

Bridging Two Rooms

De-Stress and Relax

Storage Solutions

Seattle luxury designer says organized closets are a must

Great custom closets are a sweet spot

Here are some observations and comments from my clients to keep in mind:

  • Don’t place the laundry room near the garage entrance. Reminders of work to do and clutter are better out of sight.  And laundry rooms near the bedrooms makes better sense.
  • Instead of a ‘mudroom/laundry’ area consider a well-organized area for shoes, backpacks, mail, keys, etc. that transitions between garage and kitchen and family room.
  • Open kitchens for entertaining need to be clutter-contained.  So pantries are re-emerging that blend pantry with butler’s rooms. Think sink, small appliances, extra dishwasher (drawer?). More ideas for entertaining.

Do Colorful Outdoor Fabrics Add Personality to Your Patio?

Written by faith | 0

The short answer, ABSOLUTELY! From my designer view in Seattle, color on your patio and outdoor space adds a feeling, mood, vibe that tells your family and friends about you. So express yourself.  Never before has such an opportunity been available between fabrics, furniture and accessories.  Take advantage and step away from cookie cutter outdoor furniture sets and cushions.  Be brave and show your color sensibility.

This new collection from Gloster Furniture is a perfect starting point using chairs, 2 or more colors, for a color statement around your table.  Plus they stack and save space in a space challenged area.

Orange Adds Vibrant Personality to Interiors

Written by faith | 0

As a lover of tangerine tango, the color of the year, I am excited with luscious combinations of orange, coral and tomato red. Though I can’t dress myself totally in an orange outfit (think pumpkin), I can pull orange, coral, pink, red and neutrals together and love the combo. Much can be said about how our fashion sense is also an inspiration for our interiors. I follow a fabulous blog, You Look Fab, and recently this combo was featured with my current favorite color combo.

Orange spices the interior of this room

Per the designer, John Barman,  ”Using bright colors and strong stylized furniture, I created a contemporary residence with a 1940s French feel.” Notice the large sofa is neutral as are the walls… much as you would do for an outfit.  Enjoy comparing the fashion and the interior.

Truthfully, Color Changes Everything

Written by faith | 2

I am passionate about color, and yes, it does change everything. Especially in an interior design project, the mood and feeling is altered by the colors selected. To get you in the mood, I have Target and Weiden Kennedy to thank for saying it SO well.

Color Changes Everything

For example, what about the bedroom? What colors will soothe you to sleep and welcome you to your day?  Thanks to Benjamin Moore I have some ideas.

Is it a quiet, monochromatic setting with tone-on-tone colors and textiles?

Can You Color Your Ceiling?

Written by faith | 0

I’m a color-lover in my Seattle interior design practice. I love the uplift that color adds to interior design.  And one of my favorite places to find inspiration is at the Benjamin Moore Facebook Page.

What happens when you color your ceiling? The mood and feeling of the room is altered so if you paint a ceiling, know in advance the mood you want to create. Here are two examples:

Seattle designer says use the Fifth Wall for color
