Wallcoverings Add Pizzazz to Interiors

Designers Guild Wallpaper

I personally am very pleased to see wallpaper enjoy a resurgence.  There are times when a coat of paint just won’t do and a special wallpaper is the perfect treatment.

According to LeRue Brown, “wallpaper designers are pushing the boundaries of technology and design with fresh interpretations of traditional patterns.”  Often in smaller spaces like a powder room or entry,  it is less intimidating to introduce wallpaper.  But then at other times we desire a greater emphasis or some pizzazz.  This situation calls for the use of wallpaper on a larger surface such as above the wainscot in a dining room or library or on all four walls of a living room.

The good news is these days wallcovering is much easier to install and remove since the industry knows past memories around either issue contributed to the decline of wallpaper. Renters, you too can install wallpaper and know that it will be easy to remove if requested.

With today’s emphasis on indoor air quality, you find many collections printed with water-based, nontoxic inks.  Many are also biodegradable. Other coverings are made from recycled materials which allow them to ‘breathe’ and stay free of mold and mildew. The technological advances enable a better product and more importantly an eco-friendly one.

I think wallcoverings add a special ambiance and finished ‘touch’.  And in the image above you see the altered attitude of the room with the pattern and color of the paper in combination with pillows, window treatments and painted furniture.  Though paint remains the least expensive way to update, maybe it’s time to reconsider wallpaper and create a fresh, new attitude in your home.

Are you open to a fresh look with wallpaper? Let me more.  More tips.

Are you Ready to Refresh your Home?

Written by faith | 1

from the archives of my blog –

Remodeling, re-furnishing and re-arranging what you already have are definite solutions for a  fresh new look in your home.  I find my clients are spending more time at home and tweaking what they own is a big boost to their mood and budget.  That’s why I recommend a specifically selected design application with a defined cost which works like a restaurant menu.

I call these packages Design Ala Carte Solutions.

Homeowners today consider a remodel as a solution to upgrading their surroundings. Selecting a great team of designer, architect, and contractor are essential for a smooth process.  However, refurnishing and redesigning existing rooms is a more immediate and less costly solution to a complete remodel. For example, you could reupholster a favorite chair.

Another option is to rearrange your furniture and make your space flow more functionally.  A new arrangement creates fresh appeal  in your room. An interior designer can rearrange major pieces, edit what you already have or suggest simple additions.

Accessories add fresh interest and are an inexpensive way to bring new life to old tired spaces. Simply swap out art and accessories in rooms and change the look and style of a room without major changes or expense. Showcase an existing collection and add to it. Make sure the style is one you really like and enjoy.  Stay clear of clutter, and carefully select.  Less is more. Use a few important pieces rather than many smaller items.

Heard about Hable Construction?

Written by faith | 0

Named after their great-grandfather’s road construction business, Texan sisters Susan and Katharine Hable founded the NY textiles company Hable Construction in 1999. Katharine, a born saleswoman with professional experience working at Kate Spade and Polo Ralph Lauren; and Susan, an artist inspired by nature and the handmade aesthetic, decided a business partnership would be a harmonious marriage of the siblings’ talents.

Adhering closely to their original vision is the practice of keeping the designs hand-drawn by Susan, and reproduced by skilled artisans who treat their work as a careful craft, employing traditional screenprinting procedures in an old New England factory. Furthering this principle, the company partnered with a Hungarian women’s cooperative in 2001 to produce a line of wool-felt products utilizing a traditional hammer and chisel applique technique. Outside of the wool-felt production, all Hable products are proudly made in the U.S.  The colorful canvas and cotton/linen fabrics are printed by hand in an old New England factory.
